Patrol Lieutenant Joseph Burge:   Lieutenant Burge has been a full time police officer for the city of Greenfield since August 1993. Burge was appointed as the provisional Chief of Police on June 11, 2012 and served in that capacity until November 15th, 2013, at that time he was assigned as a provisional captain to ease the transistion that occurred upon the appointment of Chief Haigh, the new permanent chief. He returned to his permanent position of lieutenant on March 1st, 2014 once the transition of the new chief was complete.  In September 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he was assigned as a Patrol Sergeant and very quickly assigned as the departments Detective Sergeant.  In Febuary 2007, in recognition of his achievements he was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned as the commanding officer of the Detective Bureau. His primary duties were to manage and supervise detective personnel, case management and write and disburse detective bureau grant funds.  Burge is a departmental instructor in firearms, taser, use of force, legal updates, fingerprinting, crime scene processing, and defensive tactics. As a lieutenant,  Burge was also appointed as the Executive Officer for the Special Response Team he was responsible for: managing special response team operations, schedule, plan, and conduct Special Response Team training, coordinate and oversee Special Response Team deployments, as well as managing the Entry Teams, the Sniper Team, and the Hostage Negotiation Team.  Burge has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Greenfield Community College and a Bachelors Degree of Science in Law Enforcement from Western New England University.    As the patrol lieutenant, he is assigned to oversee department patrol operations.  His duties include, but are not limited to; managing and overseeing the patrol division, approving completed reports, managing outside detail assignments, responding to calls for service, and managing community policing activities.

Sergeant Todd Dodge:       Sgt. Dodge has been a full time police officer since 1998 and is currently working in the capacity as the dayshift watch commander.  As a Patrolman, he served as a Field Training Officer, Bicycle Patrol Officer, Detective and member of the Department's Special Response Team.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in April 2007. Sgt Dodge served as a provisional Lieutenant from 2011 to 2014 to assist through the transition of the department from Chief Guilbault to Chief Haigh.    Sgt. Dodge has received training as a Drug Recognition Expert and is a trained Motorcycle Patrol Officer and a member of the Department's Honor Guard. Lt. Dodge earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Western New England College in 2004.  Lt. Dodge has been awarded two Departmental Commendations as well as a Meritorious Service Medal and the prestigious "90/24" award for proactive enforcement of OUI's from M.A.D.D.  He is currently a co-leader for the department field officer training program.

Sergeant David Rice:     Sergeant Rice has been a full time police officer with the Greenfield Police Department since August 1999.  As a patrol officer, Sgt Rice was assigned as the departments first downtown business district officer.  He was promoted to sergeant in July 2012.  Sergeant Rice holds a Masters Degree of Arts in Criminal Justice with a Post Graduate Certificate in the Prevention of Domestic Violence from the the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2008.   Currently, Sgt. Rice is assigned as a vacation relief sergeant.  Sgt Rice is a co-leader of the field training officer program.

Sergeant Stephen Westerling:     Sergeant Westerling has been a full time police officer with the Greenfield Police Department since October 2002.  Previous to that, he spent 9 years as a full time UMASS police officer.  As a patrol officer, Sgt. Westerling was assigned as a School Resource Officer and a Court Officer.  Westerling holds a Bachelor's Degree from Westfiled State College and is currently working towards his Master's.   He was promoted as a provisional sergeant on July 2012, then permanent sergeant in February 2014.  Currently, Sgt Westerling is assigned to the Midnight Shift as a watch commander and is in charge of the department bicycle patrol program.

Sergeant James Rode:     Sergeant Rode has been a full time police officer for the Greenfield Police Department since September 2002.   Rode responds to primary calls, serves warrants, conducts the booking and fingerprinting of prisoners, and testifies in court.  Rode is also a state certified First Aid/CPR instructor and he recently completed an extensive course on Accident Reconstruction.  Rode was appointed to the rank of sergeant in October 2015.

Sergeant Jason Haskins:     Sergeant Haskins has been a full time officer for the Greenfield Police Department since December 2007.   He came to Greenfield with 8 years experience as a part time police officer in Colrain Mass. Currently, Haskins is currently the Chief for the Colrain Police Department. Sergeant Haskins duties for Greenfield include supervising the midnight patrol shift, responding to calls, traffic enforcement, business checks, community policing, booking prisoners, and testifying in court. Sergeant Haskins is trained in hazardous-material operations, nuclear decontamination, and search and rescue.  He was appointed as a sergeant in October 2015.

Officer Patricia West    Officer P. West has been a full time police officer since August 1993.  Officer West was formerly assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit and she lectured on Domestic Abuse for police recruits and to other departments in the state.  She worked as a Detective for five years specializing in narcotics investigations and recently was honored by the Drug Enforcement Administration for her work in dismantling a crack cocaine ring. Officer West also spent time as a K9 Handler.  Currently, Officer P. West is assigned to the day shift.  She was assigned to coveted "Badge 1" signifying her as the senior most patrol officer in June 2015.

Officer William Trueswell:      Officer Trueswell has been a full time officer with the Greenfield Police Department since 1995.. Officer Trueswell's duties include marked cruiser patrol as well as foot patrol of the down town business district. Some of his responsibilities are the booking and processing of prisoners, serving of warrants and summons, traffic enforcement and community policing. Officer Trueswell is one of the department’s hostage negotiators.  Officer Trueswell has been active with the Greenfield Police Association charity fundraising activities. This has been centered around the holiday “Hay Rides with Santa” drives. These fundraisers have benefited the Greenfield Family Inn and the community as a whole.  He holds an Associates of Science in Criminal Justice from Greenfield Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Western New England College.  Currently, Officer Trueswell is assigned to the day shift.

Officer Marcus Paulin:     Officer Paulin started with the Greenfield Police Department as a reserve officer in 1995, has been a full time police officer with the Greenfield Police Department since November 1996.  He is currently assigned to the department's Patrol Division - day shift.  Officer Paulin's patrol duties include responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service, routine patrol, traffic enforcement, service of arrest warrants, service of summons and other law enforcement paperwork, transportation of prisoners to the court, report writing, and testifying in court.  Paulin was a long time member of the departments special response team and acted as a field training officer.  Officer Paulin is a member of the department's Honor Guard.  Officer Paulin is a highly decorated officer earning the Medal of Exemplary Service, four life saving awards and 10 department commendations.  Currently, Officer Paulin is assigned to the day shift.

Officer Laura Gordon:    Off. Gordon has been a full time police officer for the Greenfield Police Department since 1998.   Prior to that, she spent 5 years as a full time UMASS police officer   In October 2001 she was assigned to Greenfield’s detective division.  Her duties included being the primary sexual assault/child sexual assault investigator; she's was also responsible for registering  sex offenders.  She created department history as being the first female sergeant when she was promoted to provisional sergeant in August 2012.  She was returned to her permanent rank of patrol officer after the new chief's transition plan was in place.  Gordon has taught at the citizen police academy, been a D.A.R.E. instructor, a R.A.D. instructor, a certified sexual assault investigator, a member of the bike patrol and a field training officer.  Currently, Off. Gordon is currently assigned to the evening shift and a bicycle patrol officer.

Officer Christopher Rowell:       Officer C. Rowell has been a full time police officer for the Greenfield Police Department since January 1999.  He was a student resource officer within the Greenfield Schools. He is a longtime president of the Greenfield Police Relief Association and has spearheaded fundraising efforts for the school system, local charities and for purchases within the department in the tens of thousands of dollars.   Currently, Officer C. Rowell is a field training officer and is assigned to the day shift.

Officer Jason Kratz    Officer Kratz began his law enforcement career as a Federal Law Enforcement Ranger for the National Park Service during the summers of 96' and 97' at Boston National Historical Park and Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina.   Officer Kratz has been a full time police officer for the Greenfield Police Department since February 1999.  Officer Kratz was the school resource officer for the 2005/2006 school year.  He received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice in 97'. Currently, Officer Kratz is assigned to the evening shift.

Officer Patrick Buchanan:     Officer Buchanan has been a full time police officer for the Greenfield Police Department since Feb 2000. Officer Buchanan is a patrol officer whose duties include handling any problems that the local businesses may have, responding to calls, walking downtown, serving warrants and summons, traffic enforcement, community policing activities, booking and fingerprinting prisoners, and testifying in court. Officer Buchanan is a department field training officer.  Currently, Officer Buchanan is assigned to the evening shift.

Officer Chad Sumner    Officer Sumner has been a full time police officer for the Greenfield Police Department since May 2005.   Officer Sumner's duties include responding to calls for service as well as proactive policing in the community, traffic enforcement, serving warrants and summonses, booking and processing of arrests, and testifying in court. Also, Officer Sumner has received additional training in the fields of internet crimes against children, motor vehicle drug interdiction and tactical breaching and entry.  Currently, Officer Sumner is assigned to the evening shift.

Officer Aaron McCloud:  Officer McCloud has been a full time Greenfield Police Officer since October 2010.  His  duties include patrol, responding to calls, traffic enforcement, business checks, and community policing, booking prisoners, and testifying in court.   Currently, Officer McCloud is assigned to the midnight shift.

Officer Emily Rowell:      Officer Emily Rowell graduated from Frontier Regional High School in South Deerfield then attended Greenfield Community College where she graduated with an Associates degree in Criminal Justice. Officer Rowell has was hired as a full time Greenfield Police Officer in June 2012, graduating from the Boylston Police Academy as part of the 20th ROC in December 2012. Officer Rowell is trained as a sexual assault investigator, an advanced OUI detection Officer as well as a CPR and First Responder instructor for the department and a Field Training Officer. She has also recently been recruited to the Franklin County Regional SRT team. Officer Rowell has worked in Springfield MA for the past 10 years in EMS, certified as an EMT Paramedic.

Officer Justin Purinton:     Officer Purinton was a special police officer since 2012.  He was hired full-time in January 2014. Prior to the Greenfield Police Department he worked as a part-time police officer for Colrain.  He graduated high school from Mohawk, continuing his education at GCC graduating with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.  He is currently assigned to the midnight shift.

Officer Felix Ramos:    Officer Ramos was a special police officer since July 2011.  He was hired fulltime in January 2014.  Officer Ramos is a member of the Franklin County Regional SRT Team, and is assigned to the midnight shift.

Officer Jay Butynski:   Officer Butynski has been a full time officer for the Greenfield Police Department since August 2014. Prior to that he served as both a Special and Reserve Police Officer with the department, begining in February of 2012. Officer Butynski previously served as a reserve officer for the Town of Erving. His duties include but not limited to patrol, responding to calls, traffic enforcement, drug arrests, serving warrants, community policing and testifying in court. Officer Butynski is assigned to the departments Bicycle patrol unit and Crisis Intervention Team. He has also been recruited for the the Franklin County Regional SRT team. Officer Butynski is currently assigned to the midnight shift

Officer Corey Greene:     Officer Greene became a part time police officer in 2002.  He graduated the fulltime academy in March of 2005.  He graduated from Greenfield Comunity College with his associates degree and continued to Westfield State College for his Bachelors degree.    Officer Greene worked for Erving and Montague Police Departments until he  was was hired fulltime for the Greenfield Police Department in November of  2014.

Officer Joshua Lemay:    Officer Joshua Lemay was born and raised in Greenfield. He attended and graduated from the Greenfield public school system. Officer Lemay was a member of the MA Army National Guard and served in an infantry unit. Before becoming a Greenfield Police Officer, he worked part-time as a police officer for the towns of Colrain, Montague and Sunderland.   Officer Lemay also worked for several years as a Deputy Sheriff at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office before attending the Western Mass. Police Academy.

Officer Michael McDowell:  Recruit officer McDowell was hire in January 2015, he started directly into our department as a recuit officer assigned to the police academy,  unfortunately he received a substantial injury in the academy of which he needed to be removed from the academy to recover from.  He rejoined the academy in August 2015.

Officer Jeffrey Soto:   Officer Jeffrey Soto started his career by working part-time for Whately Police Department starting in November 2011.  He also worked part-time for Shutesbury Police Department starting in April 2012. Officer Soto attended the full time police academy in 2013 and graduated with the 48th MPOC. Officer Soto also worked at UMass Police Department from 2013 until he was hired at for the Greenfield Police Department in October of 2015. Officer Soto is currently assigned to the midnight shift.

Officer Patrick Merrigan:   Officer Patrick Merrigan attended Greenfield High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Worcester State College. He began his career working as a reserve officer with Deerfield Police Department and Buckland Police Department in 2012. Officer Merrigan graduated from the full-time academy in January 2014 and worked for the Erving Police Department until being hired by Greenfield Police in January 2016.

Special & Reserve Officers:     Currently, the department employees up to 9 special & reserve officers.  These officers work for our agency on a part-time basis.    A reserve officer is a part time officer from the Massachusetts Civil Service Commission.  A special officer is a non-civil service part time officer.
