Administration

     Providing support to patrol and investigations, the administrative division of the police department includes record keeping, property management, design and upkeep of policies and procedures, budget design, fiscal and personnel management. 

     The following personnel are assigned to the administration division:
 
Chief Robert H. Haigh Jr.:   Chief Haigh was sworn in as Greenfield's Police Chief in October 2013.  He has been an officer since 1998 and has worked as an SRO, detective, sergeant and past chief of the Town of Orange.  Chief Haigh is a graduate of Western New England University class of 1998.

Deputy Chief Mark Williams:     Deputy Chief Williams has been a full time police officer in Greenfield since July 1999.  In 2006 he was assigned to the department's detective bureau and conducted investigations involving all types of crimes, with a specialty in financial crime and identity theft investigations.  He was promoted to Sergeant in November of 2009, and to Deputy Chief in August of 2014.  Deputy Chief Williams is the Commanding Officer of the Franklin County Regional Special Response Team.  He is also a lead instructor for the Municipal Police Training Committee in the areas of Sexual Assault Investigations and Domestic Violence Response.

Lieutenant William R. Gordon:      Lt. Gordon has been a police officer for the City of Greenfield since June 1993.  Prior to that, he worked in the towns of Sunderland, Leverett and Nantucket.  In the 1990's Lieutenant Gordon served several years as a D.A.R.E. officer and worked as a community police officer. He spent several summers as one of the department’s first bike officers.  Lieutenant Gordon was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 2000, as a Sergeant he was assigned mostly evening and night shifts. Lieutenant Gordon was promoted to his current rank in January 2007.  Lieutenant Gordon has been issued several department commendations and four life saving awards.  Lieutenant Gordon has an Associated Degree in Criminal Justice from Greenfield Community College, a Bachelors Degree of Science in Law Enforcement and a Master's Degree of Science in Criminal Justice Administration both from Western New England University.   Currently, Lt. Gordon is assigned to the administration division and is in charge of scheduling, records, property management, court, webmaster, social media manager and the administrator of the records management software.

Management Assistant Philip Wartel:    Management Assistant Philip Wartel started with the department on June  2013. He has a degree in Management/Data Processing, and was a Systems Analyst and Project Manager for 19 years. He oversees the daily activities of the civilian personnel in the department. He assists the Chief of Police with all aspects of staffing and budgeting for the department and reports directly to the Chief. He will be handling the department grant administration and computer management.

Senior Account Clerk Erin Nugent :  Mrs. Nugent joined the department in January of 2014. Erin graduated Summa Cum Laude from Manhattanville College in May 2008 and earned a degree in Business Management. She comes to the GPD with account management experience in both the financial and construction industries. Her primary responsibilities include payroll, preparation of invoice schedules, processing restraining orders, sex offender registrations and taxi license renewals.

Records Clerk Gillian Halkett:    Ms. Halkett started with the Greenfield Police Department in November 2012.  She has worked in the legal industry for over 15 years and has completed numerous computer software courses.  Ms. Halkett performs a wide range of administrative and clerical support services, as well as the record keeping for the department.

Court Administrator Attorney Jeffrey Bengtson:   Attorney Bengtson Grew up in Brattleboro, class of 2000.  He attended Western New England College graduating in 2004 with a bachelors in business then continued his education finally graduating Law School in 2006.  He worked in the North Western District Attorney office as a prosecutor from 2006 until 2013.  In 2013, he opened a private practice until February of 2015 when he started his employment with the Greenfield Police Department.  He is currently our Court Liaison working Monday - Friday 6am until 2pm.
